Congratulations Constable Jose Abundo for winning the Ray Canuel Award for Community Policing
Constable Abundo is being recognized for his comprehensive and dedicated work in neighbourhood policing. He developed and completed numerous safety and crime prevention programs, and presented on women’s safety, high school outreach education on personal safety, target hardening for businesses and private residences and gang deterrence. Some of the programs he established have now become department-wide programs to bring to the wider Vancouver community. Constable Abundo sought out, applied for and secured funding two years in a row to expand home safety programs. He also mentors and trains the newly formed Community Safety Officers, who are provided with Home Watch Target Hardening kits, to provide important crime prevention information to citizens.
