It's All About Me

The objective of It's All About M.E. is to take crime prevention education out of the classroom and onto the street by way of taking seniors on fieldtrips. Trained seniors and a Vancouver Police Officer working together will lead field trips around Vancouver using various modes of travel while practicing crime prevention strategies being taught along the way (e.g., how to carry a purse safely, how to cross the street safely). Each field trip will use some mode of public transportation and will include a visit to a local attraction or public event followed up with a light lunch.
The field trip will address various crime and safety concerns including:
- Public transit. The seniors will travel by skytrain and at times on the buses. While on board, they will be shown the safety features and how to use them.
- Purse safety. They will be shown how to carry their purses safely.
ATM safety. - Tactical Walking. They will learn and then practice where is the safest place to walk on the sidewalk and to identify situations that make them feel uncomfortable.
- Aggressive people. They will be shown how to deal with aggressive people such as panhandlers.
- Traffic safety.
